Botox/Dysport Pre and Post Instructions
Pre-Treatment Instructions & Considerations:
Schedule your treatment at least 4-6 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation.
Avoid herbal supplements such as Ginko, green tea and anti-inflammatories of any kind for 1 week before treatment to limit bruising.
Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before your treatment to limit bruising.
Do not use Botox/Dysport if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of it's ingredients (such as human albumin) or suffer from any neurological disorders. Please notify your provider if any of these pertain to you.
Post-Treatment Instructions:
Avoid herbal supplements such as Ginko, green tea and anti-inflammatories of any kind for 1 week following treatment to limit bruising.
Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours after your treatment to limit bruising.
Bruising in the area injected is normal and usually minimal, especially if treated around the eyes. Bruising can last up to several days. You may apply Arnica (found on Amazon here), which may help diminish bruising or you may apply ice for 10-15 minutes every 1-2 hours.
It is normal to experience a headache after treatment, especially if treating the forehead or glabellar complex. Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for any discomfort.
For the first 5-6 hours following injection, remain upright.
Do not participate in activities that include heavy lifting, vigorous exercise or straining for 4-5 hours (it takes approximately 2-3 hours for Botox/Dysport to bind to the nerve and you do not want to increase circulation during that time).
Avoid activities that cause facial flushing such as tanning, exercising, and application of heat for 4-5 hours after injection.
Do not rub, touch, or manipulate the injection sites for 4-5 hours after injection.
Avoid irritating products (Retinols, Glycolics, acne medications, etc) for 24 hours following injection.
Try to use the injected muscles for the first 1-2 hours after treatment: practice frowning, raising your eyebrows and squinting. This helps work Botox/Dysport into your muscles. Although this is thought to help, this will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget.
It may take up to 10 days for Botox/Dysport to take full effect. Results peak at 14 days.
Expect treatment to last 3-6 months. Lip flips usually last 6-8 weeks.
Regular injections usually yield a longer lasting Botox/Dysport result.
If your upper lip was treated you may not be able to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate some words for approximately 2 weeks.
A follow-up visit at 2 weeks may be suggested to access the results of your treatment, especially if you are a first-time client. Your provider will be following up with you in regards to your results, and if you have any questions or concerns. If the desired outcome is not achieved, we may suggest additional units.
Any injection introduces the risk for infection. Please notify your provider if any of the following pertain to you:
Have had any surgical procedures (including dental procedures) in the past 14 days or are anticipating procedures in the next 14 days.
Have had any immunizations in the past two weeks or if you’re anticipating immunizations. This includes Covid-19 & boosters.
Have had any tattooing or permanent makeup within the past 14 days.
Take any immunosuppressive/injectable medications (ex: Biologics such as Humira, Skyrizi, Stelara, Enbrel, Taltz, Cosentyx, Tremfya)
Signs of infection may include redness and tenderness in the infected area and fever or chills. Should you develop an infection, antibiotics may be necessary. Please contact us should you have any concerns.
Avoid facials, microdermabrasion, massage or saunas for 14 days after treatment.
