Wrinkle Relaxers

Wrinkle relaxers are used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, also known as Botox and Dysport, are a natural, purified protein that work by temporarily weakening or relaxing a muscle caused by age, repeated facial expressions, and exposure to the sun. When used correctly, wrinkle relaxers can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles by preventing muscle contraction leaving a naturally smooth appearance. Both Botox and Dysport are safe, effective, painless, and FDA approved for treating mild to severe wrinkles.

What is the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport work similarly in treating fine lines and wrinkles. Though manufactured differently, they both contain the same active ingredient, Botulinum Type A. One of the main differences between Botox and Dysport is the level of concentration in each product. Dysport is more diluted than Botox, with a 3 to 1 ratio. Though you will need more Dysport units than Botox units, the price will be the same.

Dysport also differs in terms of its molecular diffusion. Dysport is composed of smaller molecules than Botox, which helps it diffuse and spread faster. Results are seen quicker for Dysport, in about 2-4 days, vs Botox, which takes about a week. Both, however, peak at two weeks. Studies suggest that Dysport not only yields a quicker result, but also longer lasting results.

Everyone’s biological makeup is different. As with many products, results will vary from person to person. Some people respond better to a certain wrinkle relaxer - so if you’ve tried Botox and noticed your results didn’t last long, it’s a great option to switching over and trying Dysport. Everyone’s treatment plan is individualized so it’s important to determine what works best for you by discussing your goals with your provider.

How many units of Botox do I need?

This illustration is a great estimate of how many units you will need. When it comes to dosing, it is an individualized and patient specific treatment. We dose conservatively for your first treatment to see how your muscles react. With consecutive treatments, the muscles will weaken and you may notice that treatments last longer.

What Can I Expect after getting Wrinkle Relaxers?

After injections, redness and swelling is seen, but will subside in 20 minutes. Bruising can happen, though it should be minimal. Performed in just twenty minutes, results are seen within one week and peak at two weeks. With the right dose, results typically last three to four months.
