As we age, our skin loses collagen and hyaluronic acid, which both work together by giving structure and volume to the face. Loss of these can therefore result in wrinkles and sagging of the skin. With the help of dermal fillers, you can restore volume loss and reverse the aging process. When done correctly, results will show subtle improvement that yields a natural, more youthful appearance and can even help balance the face.

What are Dermal Fillers made of?

There are a variety of Dermal Filler products, with the most common manufacturers being Galderma and Allergan. Fillers are categorized by the substance they are composed of. At Pure Bliss Aesthetics, we carry hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which are the most common and widely used filler.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are made of sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the human body. are also reversible and can be dissolved if they are no longer wanted.

Hyaluronic acid, a gel-like substance, is a naturally occurring substance that is found in your skin. Hyaluronic acid binds to water and helps to retain moisture in the skin, making your skin feel more supple. When our skin is hydrated, this also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected below the skin, this helps the skin appear plump, hydrated, and more youthful.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are made of sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the human body. They’re also reversible and can be dissolved if they are no longer wanted. HA filler injections instantly add volume and hydration to the treated areas, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Most hyaluronic acid fillers are mixed with lidocaine, a numbing agent that helps minimize discomfort during and after your treatment. HA fillers offer a range of products with varying consistencies, making them versatile for different treatment areas, such as the lips, cheeks, and nasolabial folds. Common hyaluronic acid fillers include: Restylane Kysse, Restylane Lyft, Revanesse Versa, and Juvederm Ultra.

How long do Dermal Fillers last?

The results of dermal fillers are temporary. The length of duration of dermal fillers vary by the areas treated, the filler used, as well as from person to person. However, most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers last approximately 6-12 months. Overtime, the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles.

Bruising, swelling and redness around the injection site is common. Bruising and swelling will subside with a few days to two weeks. Results will be seen immediately, however, it takes two weeks for results to settle and heal.

What can I do to Minimize Bruising?

Using ice for the first 48 hours will help with bruising and swelling. Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling. In addition, you may take Arnica tablets (found on Amazon here) to help with bruising and swelling. Begin taking at least two days prior to injections. Arnica gel may be applied as well to accelerate bruise healing (found on Amazon here).

Discontinuing the use of Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John's Wort and omega-3 capsules for one week prior to injection will help minimize bruising and swelling. Always check with your Primary Care Provider prior to discontinuing the use of Aspirin. In addition, avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before or after your treatment and exercising 24 hours before or after injection. Studies suggest that consuming pineapple has helped with swelling. Pineapple juice contains an enzyme called bromelain, which triggers your body's ability to fight pain and reduce swelling.
