PRFM Hair Restoration

Platelet-rich plasma, aka PRP is a natural, minimally-invasive therapy that offers patients hope for hair restoration. Whether you have hair loss associated with aging or genetics this may be the perfect option for you.

PRP for hair regrowth is a relatively new but effective non-surgical procedure that may help you look and feel like yourself again. PRFM injection is a novel procedure that uses your own blood to promote circulation and stimulates hair growth.

At Pure Bliss Aesthetics, we use SELPHYL® PRFM (platelet-rich fibrin matrix), also known as the next generation PRP. Many PRP systems have varying results and have extensive contamination with red blood cells and white blood cells, whereas SELPHYL® removes virtually all contaminating cells. PRP is converted to PRFM through a controlled process that serves to protect and preserve platelets.

At your appointment, you can expect to get your blood drawn. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge system which separates the platelet-rich fibrin matrix from the rest of the blood. The highly concentrated platelet-rich fibrin matrix is then injected into the scalp. This procedure typically lasts about 45 minutes.

Platelets are a type of cell that have accelerates tissue healing. When we have an injury, the body has the capacity to heal itself by migrating the site with platelets and other components found in human blood. With hair loss, research suggests injecting platelets into the scalp can activate growth factors that improve the blood supply to hair follicles and increase the thickness of the hair shaft. It can also stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase.

What are the PRFM Treatment Side Effects?

PRFM treatments are very safe. Because the process uses your own blood, there are no known side effects known to date for PRFM treatment. As with any injectable procedure, some patients may experience some mild and temporary irritation, swelling, bruising, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the injection site. In addition, you may have a bruise at your injection site where you blood was drawn. In rare cases, skin infection or reaction may occur, which is easily treated with an antibiotic or inflammatory. Please contact your provider immediately if you notice unusual discomfort, redness, warmth, or drainage.

Following the first 72 hours after treatment, you may notice a tingling sensation while the cells are being activated. This is normal and will subside.

How many PRFM treatments will I need?

We recommend a total of three treatments scheduled six weeks apart. Results will vary depending on the severity of hair loss and the desired result. A treatment plan will be discussed at your initial consultation. This procedure typically lasts about 45 minutes.

How long do PRFM results last?

Results may begin to take effect one month after the initial treatment. However, it typically takes three to six months from your initial treatment to see measurable results. Treatments are cumulative. Retreatment approximately every 12 months is recommended to maintain your results after your initial treatment series is completed.
